The brief:
“We need a tool to help health centers manage workloads. Our R&D team has built an algorithm that can predict the number of patients (booked and walk-in) that will be coming in a week ahead.”
The solution:
An application that goes beyond the typical booking functionality, sharing stats using historical data collected from the clinic’s past appointments and interactions with patients.
It also considers what is happening at the moment, like weather conditions, since that could be an indicator for when to expect patients to be running late, impacting the schedule and later appointments.
A requirement for the project was for the clear communication as to what clinic staff should expect for volume of patients, in order to make scheduling decisions.
The ‘inSights’ panel shares information from the algorithm that prepares the team for potential walk-in traffic.
A number tally under each Doctor’s name displays the days number of patients (6 in this example), today’s remaining open time slots available for booking (1) and the last number displays any slots where the doctor is unavailable (2), due to another engagement, or out of the office to make their rounds at a local hospital, or simply time for lunch and admin duties.
Below, the ‘Create new appointment’ modal layer is displayed once the ‘⊕ Book Patient’ button is selected in dashboard or calendar views. It allows the user to easily create an appointment and once saved, returns the user to the earlier screen they were viewing. The inSight panel on the right shows prompts to remind the user to ask the patient for information while making the appointment.
One click on a ‘Book Patient link in an available time slot opens the scheduler modal, with doctor pre-populated, so all that is required from the user is selecting the patient’s name in a dropdown menu.
The Patient view easily allows a new patient to be entered into the system, an existing patient’s details to be quickly retrieved, or an appointment booked for another day.
