CIBC: Host to Host Project
For my first project, I was asked to revise flow diagrams that documented a customer’s path through ATM menus, performing common tasks. The diagrams would be used by a vendor who provided hardware and software for ‘white-label’ ATM machines, found in retail stores and gas stations.
I was provided with outdated diagrams that needed revising, along with text notes in pen, requesting some items be removed. I found the diagrams very confusing and wanted to provide revisions that captured the changes, but were much easier to read.
One of my revised diagrams:

The revised layout reads left to right, whereas the previous diagrams started in unpredictable places. By laying a piece of paper over the lower 3⁄4 of the diagram, I demonstrated how the flow becomes even clearer when hiding the lower items in the diagram that documented how errors were handled.

A few months after the project was complete, I was presented with an ‘Above & Beyond Award’ and a gift card from my manager, after being secretly nominated by the Project Manager on this project, for this internal award to recognize employee’s work.
